Rules
Eight Off is a solitaire card game played using the standard 52-card deck.
There are eight open cells and four open foundations. 48 cards are dealt face-up into eight cascades, six cards each. 1 card is dealt to each of the 4 cells on the left.
Tableaus must be built down by rank, in suit. Foundations are built up, in suit. The foundations begin with Ace and are built up to King.
The top cards of tableau piles and cards from cells are available to play. Only one card at a time can be moved. The top card of any tableau pile can also be moved to any cell. Each cell may contain only one card. Cards in the cells can be moved to the foundation piles or back to the tableau piles, if possible.
Any cell card or top card of any cascade may be moved to build on a tableau, or moved to an empty cell, or its foundation. An empty tableau space can be filled by a King or a sequence starting with a King.
The game is won after all cards are moved to their foundation piles.
Supermoves
In Eight Off only one card may be moved at a time. Complete or partial tableaus may be moved to build on existing tableaus, or moved to empty cascades, only by a sequence of moves which recursively place and remove cards through intermediate locations.
For example, with one empty cell, the top card of one tableau can be moved to a free cell. The second card from the top of that tableau can now be moved onto another tableau. Then the original top card can be moved from the cell on top of it.
Such a sequence of moves is called a “supermove”. The game allows you to move a group of cards if there are enough free cells or empty tableau spaces.
Variants
Relaxed - An empty tableau space can be filled by a any card or a sequence starting with any card.
Variants
- Eight Off (relaxed) — Empty spot may be filled with any card, or group of cards.
